Olga and Rufino Tamayo Foundation

When the master Rufino Tamayo realized that the museum that he had founded suffered from economic difficulties that impeded its efforts, he decided, together with his wife Olga, to create a civil association to confront the economic deficits of this cultural space. A group of people joined his initiative and in 1989 the Olga and Rufino Tamayo Foundation was born. The Foundation was constituted as an institution charged with continuing the academic and moral projects of the Tamayo family, especially the promotion of contemporary art for the future generations of Mexico and of the world. At that time the National Institute of Fine Arts (INBA) and the Olga and Rufino Tamayo Foundation, A.C. (FORT) established a collaboration agreement, in which the Foundation committed itself to contributing the necessary resources to promote the activities of the museum.
During its 20 years of work, the FORT has supported the museum in its task of seeking out the sponsorship of companies, foundations, and individuals in order to have economic stimuli that guarantee the quality of the exhibitions and corresponding activities. The FORT has supported the museum in the publication of printed materials for different publics, with which it cultivates knowledge about contemporary art, the work of Rufino Tamayo and the permanent collection. Likewise, to increase the number of visitors to the museum and to publicize its activities and exhibitions, the FORT has collaborated with the museum in the search for and establishment of exchanges and sponsorships with communication companies.
Through the Foundation corporate events take place in the spaces of the museum as one of the means to raise funds.
Every year the FORT organizes the SUMA event, a fundraising dinner where the invitees get to know the artistic offerings of the museum and are invited to become involved as members or friends of the Foundation.
