The Silent Film El museo de cera premiered in Vienna, Austria, in 1924. Directed by Paul Leni, the film follows a young poet who invents romantic stories about wax figures that come to life in fantastic episodes, ranging from a darkly expressionist Gothic ballad to burlesque farce.
This recently restored screening will be accompanied by music composed by José Morales (Fussible) and Ramón Amezcua (Bostich) of Nortec. Formed in 1999 in Tijuana, Baja California, this interdisciplinary group fuses electronic music with traditional northern Mexican rhythms and Sinaloa brass bands.
The original score was made with the support of the Goethe-Institute Mexiko and the Centro Cultural Alemán de Monterrey (2021), with special thanks to Nichole Schöps.
