Cool Quartet. Ensemble originally from Mexico City. It is inspired by the musical sophistication of figures such as Paul Desmond and Lee Konitz, to develop a contemporary language in which improvisation, harmony and melodic sensitivity converge to evoke the intimate and refined atmosphere of mid-20th century jazz clubs. With a sound characterized by delicacy, open spaces and the deep connection between its members, Cool Quartet offers an experience that invites you to listen to jazz with calm, detail and emotion.
The group is made up of Emiliano Argüelles (saxophone and composition), a musician born in Mexico City, who began his training at the Escuela Superior de Música and later studied jazz at the LaFaro Jazz Institute-Mexico, under the supervision of Agustín Bernal and Héctor Rodríguez; Fernando Patiño (guitar and composition), originally from Aguascalientes, who began his musical training in Mexico City; Jaime Martínez (double bass), a graduate of the Integral Musical Development school, who has studied with leading exponents of Mexican jazz such as Israel Cupich, Agustín Bernal and Aarón Cruz; and Gabriel Contreras (drums), a composer born in Mexico City, with a career in popular music and the jazz scene, trained at L'Aula del Conservatori del Liceu in Barcelona and at the Academy of Art in Florence.
