Casts reúne un conjunto de esculturas y performances de la artista danesa Nina Beier (n. 1975, Aarhus, Dinamarca). Además de obras en el muro y en el suelo que se relacionan entre sí, la exposición acoge una serie de encuentros performáticos discretos e intermitentes que resignifican la disposición de las obras en las salas de un momento a otro. Estas presencias corporales –un joven fumador empedernido, un perro que se hace el muerto, una profesora de yoga y su alumna– aparecen en ocasiones entre los montajes escultóricos de la artista y explotan la funcionalidad inherente de los objetos expuestos como parte de una escenografía. La práctica artística de Beier evoca a menudo un enfoque similar al de la dualidad al considerar cómo la escultura está intrínsecamente ligada a los modos de escenificación de la exposición. El título Casts, en su traducción del inglés, sugiere tanto un proceso escultórico –fundición– como el modo en el que se asigna a los actores su papel para una representación –audición–, aludiendo a la doble naturaleza de los intereses de la artista.

Casts is an exhibition that assembles an arrangement of sculptures and performances by Danish artist Nina Beier (b. 1975, Aarhus, Denmark). Installed as an interdependent presentation of floor and wall-bound artworks, the exhibition plays host to a series of discrete, intermittent performative encounters that repurpose the contents of the galleries from one moment to the next. These bodily presences—a chain-smoking young man, a dog playing dead, a yoga instructor and their student—appear on occasion among Beier’s sculptural assemblages and exploit the inherent functionality of the objects on view as part of an overall scenography. Beier’s artistic practice often reflects a similar approach to duality, considering how sculpture is inherently tied to modes of staging and museographic display. The exhibition’s title evokes the double nature of Beier’s interests, referring both to a sculptural process and how actors are assigned their roles for a given performance.
