Roi Soleil (Rey Sol) es la primera exposición individual en México del director, guionista y productor autodidacta Albert Serra (Banyoles, España, 1975). Influenciado por los personajes literarios y los mecanismos estéticos del cine de los años sesenta y setenta, Serra recupera en su práctica la fantasía de los inicios de la cinematografía con temas y personajes solemnes —delirantes y absurdos— que se alejan de la representación de la vida cotidiana.
En la muestra, Serra pone en escena la agonía de Luis XIV —figura alegórica de la decadencia— mediante un performance interpretado por un actor no profesional vestido con traje de época, cuyo registro resulta en una producción postconceptual. A través de un lenguaje visual único y una narrativa no lineal, la obra aborda temas complejos como la muerte y la decrepitud en un lugar ajeno —en este caso, la sala vacía del museo—, donde permanece el testimonio de una suerte de encuentro entre la representación del poder y su vanidad.
La exposición se acompañará de un ciclo de proyecciones en el auditorio del museo, además de una conferencia impartida por el mismo Serra, concebida como parte del programa público del museo.

Roi Soleil (Sun King) is the first solo exhibition in Mexico of self-taught director, screenwriter and producer Albert Serra (Banyoles, Spain, 1975). Influenced by literary characters and the aesthetics of film in the 1960s and 1970s, Serra’s cinematographic practice captures the fantasy of the early days of this art with solemn themes and characters—delirious and absurd—more closely related to fiction than to realistic representations of everyday life.
For this exhibition, Serra stages the agony of Louis XIV—an allegorical figure of decadence—through a performance cast by a non-professional actor in period costume, which results in a post-conceptual production entitled Roi Soleil. By means of a unique visual language and a non-linear narrative, the work addresses complex themes such as death and decrepitude in a foreign place—in this case, an empty museum gallery—where the evidence of an encounter of sorts between the representation of power and its vanity remains.
