Jazz Nights is a program with more than 20 years of experience dedicated to the promotion and dissemination of jazz in Mexico City. Throughout this time, it has established itself as a platform that offers musical experiences for audiences interested in contemporary art and music.

Vania Fortuna. Singer, sound artist and composer originally from Mexico City. His research focuses on the relationship between sound and its ecosystem; he explores the boundaries between musical creation and field recording, vocal improvisation and the live soundscape, as well as the composition of stage music and the creation of arrangements.

The artist's practice implies that the outside world inhabits her, so she considers it necessary to develop an inner silence. From this perspective, listening precedes the acoustic phenomenon. Fortuna takes sounds and makes them part of her compositions, as part of the search for a material correlate of what emotionally occurs in each piece. It also incorporates documentary fragments from one or more spaces, as an attempt to add vestiges of other places or times to the music.

Vania Fortuna is director of the Latin American music ensemble Islas de la Tierra Firme, in which the following players participate: Santiago Von (alto), Marisol Sosa (tenor), Saúl Legorreta (guitar), Yonatan Mazor (piano), Vico Díaz (lion) and Miguel Buenostro (drums). In the ensemble, Fortuna collaborates with voice, composition and electronics.

In recent years, his personal archive of field recordings in ecosystems in Mexico and Latin America has been the primary source of the material he uses for the composition of soundscapes in conjunction with live vocal performance, both in musical creation contexts and in multidisciplinary sound explorations for the performing arts.

Among the artist's recent collaborations are the following: Fieber Festival (Berlin, 2015), Social Research Institute of the UNAM (2015 — 2020), National Theater Company (2018), Platohedro (Medellín, 2018), Eurojazz Festival (2020), Querétaro International Jazz Festival (2021), FACTT (Portugal, 2021), Flash ACT/Goethe Institut (2021), Ecos Sonoros (2022 and 2023), Mexico on Stage (2023-2024), Casazul (2024), El Aleph Festival - UNAM (2024) 2022 and 2024), Theaterwelt/Goethe Institut (2024), International Radio Biennial (2025), Theater UNAM (2026), among others.
